Prize Winners

Grand Prize Winners:

First Prize: Yaesu FT-950 Transceiver
Winner: Will S. Tomas (K6WST), Imperial, California



Will S. Tomas was the excited winner of the Yaesu FT-950 base station. Will is shown on the right, receiving the grand prize from 2009 Hamfest Director Richard Palaszynski. Buying some of those grand prize raffle tickets paid off big time for Will, an extra class ham! After the winning callsign and name was announced following our BBQ dinner, Will threw his hands in the air and walked quickly to the front stage with a huge grin on his face. The grin probably isn't gone yet.



Second Prize: Kenwood TM-D710A APRS-Compatible Mobile Radio
Winner: Fred Scully (K0VK), Woody Creek, Colorado



Fred Scully won the popular Kenwood TM-D710A APRS-Compatible radio (right, accepting the prize from 2009 hamfest director Richard Palaszynski). Fred holds an amateur radio extra license and the vanity call K0VK, and previously held the callsign WB0FOR.



Third Prize: Yaesu VX-8R Handheld Radio
Winner: John Martin (K7AGB), Bend, Oregon



John Martin of Bend, Oregon and Yuma, Arizona was not at the dinner when we pulled his winning ticket from the raffle barrel. He was delighted to hear he had won the popular VX-8R when we called him the next day. John, who holds an amateur extra license, is on the right, accepting the prize from 2009 hamfest director Richard Palaszynski.



Fourth Prize: Scorpion SA-680 antenna
Winner: Wayne Mooney (VE4RWM), Winnipeg, Manitoba



Wayne Mooney, who lives in both Manitoba and Yuma was also not at the dinner when we drew his winning ticket. He was very excited to hear he had won the magnificent looking Scorpion screwdriver-style antenna when we called him the next morning. Wayne had previously looked at the Scorpion antenna and was considering buying one. He has a vehicle which will soon have the antenna mounted on it. Wayne is on the right in the photo, accepting the prize from 2009 hamfest director Richard Palaszynski.



Fifth Prize: MFJ-259B antenna analyzer
Winner: Mike Bales (KC7GTY), Sierra Vista, Arizona



Mike Bales of Sierra Vista, Arizona won the MFJ-259B antenna analyzer. Mike, who holds an amateur extra license, is on the right in the photo, accepting the prize from 2009 hamfest director Richard Palaszynski.



Sixth Prize: Garmin nüvi 750 GPS
Winner: John McFadden (N9ZLK), Apple River, Illinois



John McFadden of Apple River, Illinois has been coming to Yuma for years. John, who holds an amateur general license, is on the left in the photo, accepting the prize from 2009 hamfest director Richard Palaszynski. John is wearing his Yuma Hamfest volunteer hat from our first hamfest in 2005, which some think will be worth millions on eBay someday!



Registration Drawing Prize: Garmin eTrex Legend GPS
Winner: Antonin Dufour, West-Brome, Quebec



Antonin Dufour, from Quebec, Canada, won the registration prize of a Garmin eTrex Legend handheld GPS. This prize is awarded every year just for attending the event.



Other Prize Winners:

On Saturday, the main day of the hamfest, there were drawings every hour throughout the day, which were announced over the loudspeaker system at the Yuma County Fairgrounds and inside the main theater building. Those winners had to be present to win. On Saturday night, following the Buzzard Barbeque, over 50 additional small prizes were given away as the result of just attending the Yuma Hamfest barbeque.
